Botanical Painting
Botanical Illustration is an established art form extending back over many centuries and one which has not been surpassed as a technique for the accurate recording of a plant’s shape and structure.
Mally Francis is an experienced and capable tutor who has the ability to teach students in a friendly and easily understood manner.
Botanical Painting is a skill which can be learned and Mally's courses approach it with a structured, 5-stage, technique.
There will be an emphasis on creating form in your painting to give it a 3-dimensional appearance and advice on colour mixing is another essential aspect, together with suggestions on mounting and framing your finished work.
The number of students per course is limited and this allows for individual attention and tuition. No previous experience required.
The studio is spacious, well-lit, equipped with a library of useful reference books and contains all that you will need apart from your own painting materials.
A list of recommended items will be sent to you upon receipt of your completed booking form.
There are two types of courses:
4/5 Day courses are held in the Spring, Summer and Autumn.
Regular groups meet weekly on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays on a termly basis and include a masterclass from a top London-based botanical artist each term.
4/5 Day Course Dates for 2008 (all dates inclusive):
March 28th - 31st 4 days
April 17th - 21st 5 days
May 16th - 19th 4 days
June 20th - 23rd 4 days
July 18th - 21st 4 days
September 19th - 22nd 4 days
October 2nd - 6th 5 days
Tuition Fees:
4 Day Course: £260.00 including lunch each day during the course.
5 Day Course: £325.00 including lunch each day during the course.
One day per week Termly Fees: £250.00 bring your own packed lunch.
Accommodation for 4/5 Day Courses:
Please indicate if you wish to stay here for B&B. Two twin rooms with a shared bathroom which are available on a first-come first-served basis at £45.00 per person per night (£5.00 single person supplement). Alternatively there are various local B&Bs and details can be provided if required.
Gift Vouchers are available for Botanical Painting Courses, either for the full course or per day. Further details on request.
